Work
I am currently Principal Visualisation Consultant at Intuita, a data consultancy with offices in Newbury, Liverpool and London in the UK, as well as an office in Šibenik, Croatia.
Intuita was set up by Glenn Merritt and Lasse Pedersen, who are still Managing Partners today. I was the first employee Intuita hired after I worked in Lasse’s Business Intelligence team at Virgin Media.
After graduating in Maths from the University of Bath, I navigated a few Data Analyst roles before developing a particular interest in Data Visualisation while working at VM. I initially learnt my trade using a software called QlikView and subsequently with its sister tool Qlik Sense. Since then I have worked with a variety of BI tools, in particular Power BI and my most experience being in Tableau. I also heavily use various forms of SQL as part of the data development process to transform raw data into the required structure for Data Viz tools. As well as hands-on development, I also deliver consulting around the guiding principles of Data Viz and best practice standards to follow.
Data Visualisation blog
See my Blog for some of my thoughts on Data Viz.
The key to building powerful Functional Data Visualisations is finding the right balance between the 3 core principles: Function, Data and Visuals.
I thought it was about time I combined my hobby with my day job so here’s a visualisation based on my running data.
